TEHRAN, KOMPAS.com - The Iranian government intends to move one of the busiest airports in the country after finding reserves of oil right under the airport runway path. Local media reported on Saturday (29/12/2012).

According Rasoulinejad Mahmoud, Head of State Airports Company of Iran said the National Iranian Oil Company intends to purchase the airport Ahvaz in southern Iran, as it has discovered oil reserves under the airport runway .

"The government has approved the transfer of the airport," said Rasoulinejad without specifying how large oil reserves were discovered beneath the airport.

He just said, the new airport will be built about 15 kilometers from the center of Ahvaz.

According to him, Ahvaz airport is one of the busiest airports in Iran, which serves an average of 30 flights per day. At the airport it's a US-owned commercial aircraft made an emergency landing due to technical problems, three weeks ago.

Airport transfer, said Rasoulinejad, actually beneficial, because it gives an opportunity to expand the airport.

Iran is a major oil producer in the world .
