SEOUL, KOMPAS.com - South Korea, Wednesday (12/19/2012), finally chose Park Geun-hye as the new president of the country as well as making her the first female leader of South Korea. Park narrowly won over its competitors Moon Jae-in.

After 85 percent of the votes counted, the daughter of former South Korean dictator was still ahead with 51.5 percent of the vote, while the Moon Jae-in only earn 48 percent of the vote .

As the leader of a country with the fourth largest economy in Asia, Park (60) will face many challenges in leading the country. Some of the challenges include maintaining relations with North Korea, South Korea's economic slowdown and rising welfare costs.

During the campaign, Park emphasizes the message of economic democratization, try to reduce social disparities with rapid economic development, and promising field jobs and increase the cost of public welfare.

"I will be a president who fulfill all the promises I made in front of people," said Park told cheering supporters in downtown Seoul.

Compared Moon, Park much better understanding of the importance of maintaining the power of the country's conglomerates that dominate the country's economy.

Meanwhile, North Korean affairs, Park promised policies to strengthen relationships and strengthen vigilance . Park also viewed the prospect of a high-level meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un who took office last year.

He also showed a desire to re-send humanitarian aid to North Korea suspended President Lee Myung-bak.

In its efforts of national reconciliation, openly, Park apologized for the rigors of his regime in the past.

On the other hand, Moon Jae-in receives this bitter defeat gracefully.

"I humbly accept the election results," said Moon.
