CAIRO, KOMPAS.com - Sixteen people were killed in riots that broke out in Port Said, Egypt, Saturday (01/26/2013), pascavonis punishment imposed on convicted 21 soccer fans riot that killed 74 people in February 2012.

The unrest broke out after a Cairo court sentenced to death on 21 people in one of the worst football violence in the world. The verdict sparked efforts jailbreak and riots in Port Said, the hometown of most of the defendants.

Police then fired tear gas, rubber bullets and live ammunition, to the crowd in front of the prison. Six people were killed in the incident, said the security official, who requested his identity was not mentioned because it was not the authorities say it.

Security officials said, the military has been deployed to Port Said. This is the second deployment in less than 24 hours.

Lawyers for the defendants said, all sentenced to death was a supporter of Al-Masry club.

Meanwhile, Sobhi Abdel-Maquid judge said in remarks broadcast live on state television, said he would announce a verdict for 52 other defendants on 9 March.

Among those on trial in that case is six security personnel. But none of them were sentenced today, said lawyers and security officers.

Al-Ahly supporters "promising" more violence if the defendant is not sentenced to death. A few days before the verdict, they were warned there would be bloodshed and "retaliation". Hundreds of fans gathered at the Al-Ahly Cairo gymnasium shouting criticism of the government and the police.

Before the judge read the 21 names the defendant, the victim's family shouted "Allahu Akbar" as he raised his hand and lifted the photo- photos of victims. The judge struck his gavel several times to calm the masses in the courtroom.

"Now I want to see for himself the people were executed, as they see the killing of my son," said Nour al-Sabah, who lost his son, Ahmed Zakaria, in a soccer riot.

The verdict is not expected to ease tensions between supporters of the two teams competing fanatic since before that. The judge will reveal to the public the reasons that the death sentence on March 9, along with 52 other defendants sentencing.
