Residents in southeastern Australia warned of the risk of catastrophic fires are exacerbated by high winds and hot temperatures. More than 100 fires were reported in New South Wales, where residents in bush fire prone areas are asked to leave their homes.

Firefighters currently trying to tame the fire in Victoria and fears of a repeat of the original disaster in Tasmania is still very high.

In a statement, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology reveals that one in every six days in 2013, was the hottest day ever recorded in the history of the country's climatology.
