Ivory Coast Announces National Day of Mourning
ABIDJAN, KOMPAS.com - Ivorian government announced three days of national mourning following the death of 61 people when the incident New Year celebrations in Abidjan.
The incident occurred when hundreds of people jostling -pressure leaving the fireworks show at the Felix Houphouet Boigny stadium, Plateau district.
Most victims aged 15 years or younger. They died due to stampede and suffocation.
President Alassane Ouattara described the incident as a national tragedy. Investigations carried out to determine the main causes of accidents.
Strong Cause Accidents
Various theories surfaced related causes stampede that occurred at the stadium with a capacity of 65,000 people. Some people say the youth group held a knife to grab a cell phone visitors as the cause of the chaos in the crowd.
But there is also a mention that the security forces act is not feasible to control the thousands of people who walk through the jostling town center which caused a lot of people injured.
President Ouattara while visiting victims in two hospitals in Abidjan promise all maintenance costs will be borne by the government.

Before tragedy celebration of the new year, the stadium is named Felix Houphouet Boigny according to the name of the founding president of Ivory Coast was used as a location for U.S. star Chris Brown concert.
