Swabi, KOMPAS.com - Pakistani police say seven people working for health education charity shot dead by gunmen in northwestern Pakistan on Tuesday (1/1).

The dead were six women, five of whom are teachers and one other health worker and a man who worked as a technician.

The driver survived the incident but suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital.

They work for a local charity that provides education Ujalla to the community and employ health workers around.

The police chief in the town of Swabi district said they were attacked when leaving a community health center that specializes themselves on maternal health.

"Four men came riding two motorcycles. They attacked the van, Toyota Hiace. They shoot to the right and left the car and fled, "said Abdul Rashid Khan, as reported by AFP news agency .

Business health centers said they had not received threats, but suspect carried out the attack because the vaccination program.

Two weeks ago, nine people involved in the polio vaccination program in Pakistan was shot dead in a few locations.
