the World Food Programme (WFP), Tuesday (01/08/2013), said that as many as one million Syrian citizens starving and helpless because of the civil war for 22 months in the country. This month WFP
set a target of providing assistance to 1.5 million from 2.5 million people according to the Syrian Red Crescent require assistance.
the World Food Programme spokeswoman Elisabeth Byrs said safety factors severely hampered aid distribution.
In addition, because the use of the port of Tartous in Syria is not possible then the delivery of aid to areas worst affected by the conflict can not be done.
"Our main partners, the Red Cross, overwhelmed and do not have the capacity to expand the reach," said Byrs in Geneva.

He added that WFP to temporarily withdraw staff from offices in Homs, Aleppo, Tartous, and Qamisly because the situation in the cities is increasingly dangerous.
But in December, the World Food Programme for the first time in months to reach severe areas near the Turkish border.
Meanwhile, the UN refugee agency (UNHCR) said the number of refugees who fled the violence in Syria increased by nearly 100,000 lives over the last month.
UNHCR says there are 597,240 registered Syrian refugees so far.
