Afghanistan bans U.S. Special Forces
KABUL, KOMPAS.com - President of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai, demanded the withdrawal of U.S. special forces from Wardak in two weeks time. Karzai accused the U.S. special forces has triggered 'insecurity and instability'' in the restive province which neighbors the capital Kabul.
"In a National Security Council meeting today, President Karzai ordered the Defence Ministry to drive out U.S. special forces from Wardak province within two weeks, "said presidential spokesman Aimal Faizi, Sunday (24/2).
" U.S. special forces and illegal armed groups formed their cause insecurity, instability, and harassing the local population in the province, "he told a news conference.
The announcement was a new blow to the US-led forces troops as they prepare to withdraw combat troops from the war against the Taliban by the end of next year. Most of the 100,000 NATO will leave Afghanistan by the end of 2014.
A spokesman for U.S. forces in Afghanistan, said he was notified of the comment Faizi. "We take all allegations of violations seriously and endeavor to determine the facts related to the charges," he said. "Until we have a chance to talk to senior officials (Afghanistan) on this issue, we are not in a position to comment further. This is an important issue and we want to discuss with our Afghan counterparts. "
More than 3,200 NATO troops, mostly U.S. troops have died in support of the Karzai government since the Taliban were toppled by the U.S. invasion in 2001 , but the relationship between President Karzai and the U.S. are problematic.
