EU urges Israel Palestinian Prisoners Work on Condition

                            

KOMPAS.com - The European Union (EU), Saturday (16/02/2013), urged Israel to immediately improve conditions for detainees Palestinian origin. At the same time, the Minister of Prisoners Affairs Issa Qararea Palestinian Authority said that the rally will be held next week in support of the prisoners.

Number of Palestinian prisoners Israel has reached nearly 5,000 people. They are generally accused involved in the attacks on Israeli citizens.

Head of the European Union for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton said in a written statement that he followed with deep concern over the state of health the continued decline of four Palestinians. They were undergoing a hunger strike in protest against their captor. "The European Union urges the Israeli government to immediately restore the right of prisoners to receive family visits," he said.

"The European Union also called on Israel to respect the responsibility of compliance human rights standards to all Palestinians detained and imprisoned, "said Ashton.

Of all the prisoners who have been registered by Ashton, Samer al-Issawi was the longest hunger strike, which is over 208 days . He has several times admitted to hospital because of his actions.

Earlier, Issawi been released from prison in 2011 and together with dozens of other prisoners as part of a prisoner exchange. But, writes AP , Israel re-capture Issawi in January 2012 for allegedly violating the terms of liberation by engaging in military activities.
