U.S. employers taunted the French work ethic
Bos U.S. tire manufacturers, Titan, sparked controversy in France after the French officials said only work three hours a day and if he invests in there, it was a "folly."
Maurice Taylor made the remarks in a letter to the French minister of industry recovery, Arnaud Montebourg. He was responding to a request for Titan invested in the losers Goodyear plant in Amiens, northern France.
CGT unions said the letter was "an insult."
Strong way France
"I have visited the factory twice. French employees are highly paid but they only work three hours, "Taylor said in a letter dated February 8 that. The letter was published by the French business daily Les Echoson Wednesday.
"They got the breaks and an hour for lunch, talked for three hours and worked for three hours. I say this in French unions directly. They told me it is a way of France! "
At one point he asked," You think we're stupid? "
Montebourg declined to comment but said the French journalists, "Do not worry, there will be retaliation." He said he would reply to the letter by writing Taylor.
government spokesman Vallaud-Najat Belkacem said letter does not reflect the views of the U.S. public about investing in French .
Taylor, nicknamed "Grizz" (Grizzly Bear) because his style is not familiar strings attached like a bear, never run for the Republican presidential candidate in the 1996 U.S. elections.
France has a mandatory 35 hours of work a week, legislation was introduced by the Socialist Party in 2000, but critics say it is now slowing economic growth.
