Ramos Horta So the UN envoy to Guinea-Bissau

                            

NEW YORK, KOMPAS.com - UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon appointed former East Timorese President Jose Ramos-Horta (63) to the UN envoy to the coup-torn African country, Guinea-Bissau.

Ramos Horta, who joined the independence of Timor Lesta, will head the Office of the United Nations Integrated Peace (UNIOGBIS) in Guinea-Bissau. Horta Rwanda replaces diplomat Joseph Mutaboba that his tenure runs out next January 31.

"Ramos Horta has diplomatic experience of more than three decades and he has a political career when controlling bagusa Timor Leste remains stable and secure," UN official statement.

Mutaboba who was appointed in 2009, had left Guinea-Bissau since early December. Guinea-Bissau accused Mutaboba more aligned to the country's president who lost power due to a coup last April that disrupted the course of the presidential election.

Civilian government while Guinea-Bissau plans to hold elections in 2013. Guinea-Bissau has a chronic problem of political stability in the conflict between the military and the government since the country gained independence from Portuguese colonial rule in 1974.

Ramos Horta, East Timor's struggle leaders in exile during the Indonesian occupation, it is suggested forgiveness for the Indonesia accused of atrocities in East Timor. He also gave amnesty to former soldiers who tried to assassinate him in 2008.

Ramos Horta won the Nobel peace prize with East Timorese Bishop Carlos Felipe Ximenes Belo. She also was nominated to occupy one position in the United Nations after the organization ended peacekeeping mission in Timor-Leste.
