Al-Jazeera journalist shot dead in Syria
BEIRUT, KOMPAS.com - A gunman killed Al-Jazeera journalist named Mohammed Hourani in the southern Syrian province of Daraa on Friday (19/01/2013). The news was reported by television station headquartered in Qatar.
"Mohammed Hourani was killed by sniper fire from the regime in Basr al-Haris, Daraa province, when he was covering the war that occurred in the area , "as quoted from Al-Jazeera broadcast.
Before joining Al-Jazeera, Hourani is a revolutionary activists who want to bring down President Bashar al-Assad. Hourani was the second journalist killed by gunman distance in 24 hours in Syria, which is experiencing a civil war.
Earlier on Thursday, a French journalist Yves Deaby also shot dead in the northern city of Aleppo. This was disclosed by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
According to calculations news agency AFP and organization Reporters Without Borders , which is headquartered in Paris, France, at least 20 journalists killed in Syria for 22 months of the conflict in that country. The number of deaths was not taking into account other non-civilian deaths journalists to record the violence in Syria reported to the world.
